Good Night, Baby Animals, You’ve Had A Busy Day Book Review

I was so excited when I was asked to take an early look inside a fun new children’s book called Good Night, Baby Animals, You’ve Had a Busy Day by Karen B. Winnick. The book is a treasury of six original (and short) stories.

I was not financially compensated for this post. I received a sample for review purposes. The opinions are completely my own based on my experience. Also, this post contains affiliate links, but nothing that I wouldn’t wholeheartedly recommend anyway! Read my full disclosure here.

Good Night, Baby Animals, You’ve Had a Busy Day Book Review

Here’s a short description of the adorable children’s book:

Good Night, Baby Animals, You’ve Had a Busy Day follows the true-to-life antics and adventures of young animals in the wild as they, eat, play, tumble, romp, and explore their natural habitats and meet other animals who share their surroundings. Children will learn fun and accurate facts about the animals featured: tigers, elephants, rhinos, giraffes, pandas, and gorillas.

Filled with action-packed pages, sound effects, and patterned text, this 64-page, beautifully illustrated story book is the perfect bedtime story for toddlers.

Karen B. Winnick is the author and illustrator  of Gemina, the Crooked Neck Giraffe, Hank, the Ballpark Pup, Mr. Lincoln’s Whiskers, and Sybil’s Night Ride. She is President of the Los Angeles Zoo Commission.

Good Night, Baby Animals, You’ve Had a Busy Day is illustrated by Laura Watkins.

Since our little guy is almost 10 months old, he’s a little young for this one. Good Night, Baby Animals, You’ve Had a Busy Day is more geared towards toddlers and preschoolers, but (as you can probably tell from these photos) he is enthralled with the pretty and colorful illustrations while I read the stories aloud to him. Since the stories are short, I can definitely usually keep his attention for least a story or two.

The soft pages (as compared to our typical board books at this age) definitely needed my supervision for now, but he loves helping turn the pages.

I love that the animals in the stories (tigers, elephants, rhinos, giraffes, pandas and gorillas) are ones that are seem almost magical because they are not seen in the wild, at least here in North America. As our little guy grows and we don’t have a zoo locally, we’ll definitely be resorting to books to teach him about all the different kinds of animals there are in the great big world! This will be a great resource.

The cadence features alliteration and descriptive language that bring the stories of baby animals to life! The onomatopoeia makes this such a fun story for kids of all ages.

If you are looking for some fun activities to go along with this cute stories, the author has some great themed printables available for free download on her website. I especially love the finger puppets!

I can definitely tell this will be a book we keep around for many years. The cute stories are perfect for teaching children about different animals, how they interact, and (most importantly) how they wind down and go to sleep. It’s perfect for bed time or nap time. Each story ends with the little baby animal falling fast asleep.
